Twas the Night Before Christmas - An Ode to Pond Hockey
Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the city
Not a creature was stirring, now wasn't
that a pity
The Rotary stockings were hung at the Fundy Line with care
In hopes that Foundation dollars would find
their way there.
The Pond Hockey crew were nestled all snug in their beds
While
visions of thick ice danced in their heads
And Wally in his kerchief and Wayne in his cap
Were hoping for Refs
for all those Girls teams who sure like to scrap
When out on the road there rose such a clatter
Rosemay and Donna ran out to see what was the matter
Away to the window Valerie flew like a flash
She opened the
blinds and roared let's raise us some cash
As the moon shone down with a mighty glow
Had Gary and the gang ready to blow some snow
When what to my wondering eyes should appear
But a big New Holland
Tractor from Leon, Big Cheer
With the pond all cleared and froze like a brick
Francis
and Cheryl began to think quick
We'll need lots of food and refreshments for sure
For all the great Miramichi
people to "whoop, holler and cheer"
With time of the essence and great weather
indeed
Bruce and the Firefighters go to work with great speed
They get it all ready, with lots of great ice
We
couldn't do it without them, those Firefighters are so nice
Now Pat, now Geri, now Colleen
and Donnalu too
Oh Paula, Oh Melanie what do we do?
We need lots of teams to pick up their sticks
Get on the
phone and tell them to come quick
As the bounty of teams come to play
Dawn greeted each
one; this is going to be a great day
As the first puck dropped and the play has begun
The fans started gathering,
this is going to be great fun
Now that we know the games will go on
Robert gets his
tickets to sell to everyone
Ones for food, ones for drinks
For goodness sake, have lots, we'll need them me
thinks
Now Anna and Mike have the bar opened up
Everyone will be thirsty we must keep
it stocked
Our dear friends at Molson were happy to oblige
Now let's continue our weekend we've much to
provide
In the food tent it's not unusual to see
Linda and Jack and the Malley
Family
Fast and efficient is how it's gets done
Coffee, hot chocolate, wow there's food for everyone
Now Mike Hill and Ryan are new to the Pond
We'll show them the ropes and help them
around
With Greg on the P.R. and a surprise up his sleeve
You never know who'll show up, it's a mystery
indeed
Keep an eye out for John, he'll surely be by
With ½ and ½
tickets, spend lots now don't be shy
The money we raise, all for a good cause
Something we're proud of,
something to applaud
Now we all know we don't do this alone
Our Rotary friends
across the river, but we can't name just one
They work right along to aid and assist
A very big Thank You, yes,
yes, we insist
When the games are complete and a winner is crowned
It's time to
clean up, it's done in leaps and bounds
We now can relax and wind ourselves down
But only for a moment, oh dear
we must get ready for next years round!
